Considered as a career in information technologies or Telecom Field Engineer , which belong to the most demanded group in the country (the IT Observatory foresees a deficit of 53,000 Colombian engineers by 2018), its employability and income generation is high. According to the Labor Observatory of the Ministry of Education, in 2013, 318 telecommunications engineers graduated , of which 88.1% managed to enter the labor market during 2014. This percentage is high compared to other academic programs offered in Colombia.
Another relevant fact is that the average salary of a recent graduate of the telecommunications engineering degree corresponded to $ 2,151,618 at that time, constituting one of the 20 best paid programs in the country.However, the engineer Jorge Mario Barrera said that currently "salaries are not as interesting as a few years ago." He added that there is competition but " there is too much demand for professionals with less experience ". Therefore, he advises young people who want to study Telecommunications Engineering to complete their training with a postgraduate degree . It is essential to be updated with technology: "it is an area that is always advancing," he said.
