A telecommunications system is composed of the information sender , the transmission channel and the information receiver . The sender is a device that transforms or encodes the message into a physical phenomenon: the signal. The channel or means transmits said signal, and the receiver does the inverse process to the emitter to obtain the information.
The functions of the transmitter always imply in one way or another the coding of the information and its adaptation to the channel. The transmission channel, for physical reasons, modifies or degrades the signal in its path in some way. The receiver has to perform the functions of detecting the signal, recomposing it and decoding it in order to extract the information. In other cases, by way of example, communication can be made between faxes, telephones, keyboard-printer, camera-screen ... and the communication channel can be composed of wires, radio waves, fiber optic, satellite .. .
