What is dark fiber ?
The evolution of dark fiber continues to advance, and the new concept appears: “dark lambda” that is used to determine the capacity of fiber networks in mesh topology and allows to route or route lambdas through the “lanes” optical “of the fiber highways. The operators will offer connectivity of different bandwidth by using one or several lambdas between the different nodes of a meshed network. With the new capabilities of 100Gbps, 400Gbps and even 1000Gbps backbones per service, we can imagine large access capabilities with new services that, in the first phase, could be provided by operators of operators and finally to the end user. This would allow transportation capabilities unimaginable today. Think, for example, of a similar FTTH service that provides the end user with a 30 Gbps FTTH connection, or in other words, 3 10 Gbps lambdas.
