What is dark fiber ?
On many occasions we find meanings that integrate the jargon of the world of ICT and that we ourselves accept naturally as something perfectly understandable. Within this group of concepts is the so-called "dark fiber", which has more marketing content than real but which intuitively expresses its meaning. Of course it is fiber without illuminating or, in other words, a means of communications (fiber) without equipment at the ends that illuminates or sends a laser signal with data through said means. In the world of communications we know that the operators are in charge of establishing the way or "means" of transport to link the different nodes and to establish communications between them. When this means of communications is copper, telephone lines are its final application and thus establish voice circuits and ADSL links, so well known today for their use in Internet access. There are also RF or radio frequency links that in the same way send RF signals to transport information between nodes. Well-known are the WIFI links so daily use that allow connecting several computers in multipoint topology. The world of fiber optic has suffered in a very short time a tremendous evolution with concepts difficult to assimilate except within the professional environment, so that the term "dark fiber" in principle does not tell us much.
